Molly says ‘I have been fortunate enough to receive a Barns-Graham Trust Travel award on two occasions, but the one that stands out is receiving the Barns-Graham Travel to Italy Award at the end of my 4th year of university. An invitation to exhibit at a pop-up exhibition at the Venice Biennale 2019 arrived, but I lacked the funds to realize and ship the work. The then Head of the School of Art at Edinburgh College of Art, upon hearing about my need for funding, awarded me the travel award. The funds not only allowed me to realise and ship the work but also to travel to Venice for 5 days to see all the sites of the Biennale. This was the only time I’ve ever been able to afford travel abroad, and what I saw at the Biennale completely changed my outlook on art, and informed the work I produced during my final year of university. The Barns-Graham Award is one of the contributing factors to why I am still a practising artist, and I will be forever grateful for that wonderful period in Italy.’
