Mair says ‘It enabled me to travel to Turin to explore the legacy of Arte Povera on the use of ephemeral materials in sculpture. In parallel to this I visited Material ConneXion Milan, a hub for material research and design. The award gave me the freedom to pursue several strands of enquiry, which also included forays closer to home such as photographing the food production process at Tunnock’s factory in Uddingston. Exhibiting at the Royal Scottish Academy at the end of the project was a positive experience that allowed me to showcase sculpture and photographic work that emerged from this exciting period of development, and it also gave me a very nice press review in The Herald.’
