Liz Crichton

University of the Highlands and Islands | The Barns-Graham Travel Award 2017

Liz travelled to Norway to undertake the Fatal Attractions project (see below).

Liz says ‘WBGT funding made possible my first project after graduating, which laid the foundations for the establishment of my practice and the Revelation Arts charity that I am now founder and Creative Director of.  The charity aims to inspire people to engage imaginatively with creative and contemporary arts as a revelatory and transformational theological practice.’

Fatal Attraction

Fatal Attraction, funded by a Barns-Graham Travel Scholarship, Highlights the tension between conservation and the impact of large visitor numbers.  The work documents the thoughts and feelings of both tourists on the cruise ship Magellan visiting the UNESCO world heritage site of Nærøyfjord and residents of Flåm the small village at the head of this fjord whose livelihood depends upon both the preservation of the landscape and the tourists.  The findings were presented at the  Relate North Symposium 2017: Art and Design for Education and Sustainability in Rovaniemi, Finland.  To hear the voices, please watch the video: https://vimeo.com/240318646
