The Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Research Support Grant
Emma Acker
Paul Mellon Centre | The Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Research Support Grant 2011
Emma worked on a project ‘A Sense of Place: The Aerial Abstractions of Richard Diebenkorn and Peter Lanyon’ – a comparative analysis of both artists’ landscape-based abstractions. Funds used to travel to Washington DC, London and St Ives.
Emma says ‘with the generous support of a Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Research Grant, I was able to further my understanding of the central roles that landscape and a sense of place played in the abstract visual languages of St. Ives-based artist Peter Lanyon and San Francisco Bay Area-based artist Richard Diebenkorn.’
