Catriona says ‘Although I didn’t know it at the time, the period of March-May 2014 which I spent in Italy had a large impact on a body of research that turned into my 2019 film Perdikaki. This was set in Athens but the plant’s growth in both Rome and Athens played a major part in my early research and conceptualisation of the idea. A few images and drawings from Italy ended up in the book I self-published alongside the film, too. The award also set me up well for living in Athens and returning to spend time in Italy. I undertook a Bridget Riley Fellowship at the British School at Rome between 2022-23 and have worked on some exhibitions there since, one of which returned the Perdikaki drawings and research to Rome.’
