Amélie says ‘The WBGT residency at Porthmeor Studios offered an intensive period of artistic research in direct dialogue with the cultural history and distinct landscape of St Ives. The time allowed for the development of ideas and processes that continue to inform my work, among them the use of salt as a central material, first explored in response to the site’s proximity to the Atlantic. Materials gathered during this time – including ropes and fishing nets generously given by local fishermen – remain part of my sculptural vocabulary today.’
