Wilhelmina Barns-Graham

Prints 1991 - 2003

Since 1991, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham produced an astonishing array of prints. For Barns-Graham making prints was a liberating experience, one in which she could play with colours and forms to create series of images. Playing with the screens gave her the possibility of variations which in turn stimulated new ideas. The first series was the Time portfolio. Other major sets included the Millenium and Earth Series, concluding with the Wind Dance and Water Dance series completed before she died in early 2004.

Most of the late prints were made in collaboration with Carol Robertson and Robert Adam of Graal Press. On the technical side they offered the artist a wide range of possibilities through the use of water based inks. With Barns-Graham's brush marks being captured on acetate, they made prints that are truly an embodiment of the artist's painting style.
